WHAKi's One Minute Soundtracks are an experiment in musicianship and long distance improvisation.
Every week, Judd, in Savannah, GA and Zakk, in Portland, OR, receive a transmission from the R.A.N.D.O.M.S., the Random Audio Notification Device for One Minute Soundtracks. The message contains 3 simple items: a tempo, a time signature and a key.
Each working independently in their own studio, they come up with a piece of music, about 1 minute in length, based around the message from the R.A.N.D.O.M.S., not knowing what the other is doing in their studio.
Then one of them (Zakk works on the odd OMS, Judd works the even ones) produces a final One Minute Soundtrack from the 2 parts. It's not until they go to produce the OMS that they hear both parts played together, providing unexpected and often inspiring results.
Starting on 01/11/11, WHAKi will release a new OMS every week, planning a total of 50 for 2011.
